Works

For Stéphane Fedorowsky, photo developing has one major purpose : to create a photograph that is somewhere between drawing and iconography, a goal he achieves through a combination of subtle effects and textures that become rarer over time. From a photo to an image…Every photo is darkroom developed and calls on a variety of techniques which give objects and individuals a privileged existence. His relationship with the print of each photo is intimate and his mastery transforms them into real unique pieces. For him, they are the result of what he calls "matter" and "spontaneity", the fruit of a long creative process that comes to life spontaneously as it enters and re-enters the darkroom. An invisible paint brush in the hand, a palette of light...

TAROT DE MARSEILLE

The idea of reinterpreting the enigmatic Marseille Tarot was born at the beginning of my artistic journey. It's the union of a young photographer and his great-uncle, a cartomancer. During a reading one evening when I was 17, I discovered, fascinated, these images from the 15th century. The cards started to speak, and Gepeto arranged a meeting with me, without a set date or time, with a promise of a joint project. Seven years later, he shared his wish with me: to introduce the tarot into the new century. An interpretation through photography of these timeless iconographies.

SURREALISM

This work’s Série “Visions surréalistes” is an autobiographical Stephane Fedorowsky ’s vision of moments captured and staged, of chosen objects, discovered places, friends and encounters that emerge, connect and intertwine through his personnal life. Timelessly, these ingredients are remixed and recomposed in the darkroom to create living images. Small windows opening into large doors, a travel in a world of dreams and fantaisies, where illusion, chimera, fantasmagoria, unreality, catalyze surrealism...

COMICS & TAlES

Narrative exploration through photonovels and tales illustrations. Strongly influenced by the Surrealist Movement, Mythology and Symbolism, Stephane Fedorowsky associates words and images to create a deliciously seductive dream world, where his characters seem to evolve in another temporality, beyond reality.

Portraits

Stephane Fedorowsky always draws portraits, writes stories and he still keeps revealing characters by shedding light on individuals with the firm belief that: “Concealed in each of us, enfolded, a person of one instance.” In that sense, he can be described as a director to human kind ; his actors, striving to bring to light the yet unexplored depths of our inner selves. Fedorowsky explains : “ A constant tension between reality and fantasy will always prevail at the heart of his highly poetic work.”

Around The World

Photos taken during the artist's travels. Urban and wild landscapes infused with the surrealism characteristic of Fedorowsky's work.
